John Hourihane joins Murphy & Hourihane with seven years of experience representing clients in complex litigation at Bryan Cave, one of the 35 largest law firms in the world. He has handled complex commercial disputes, shareholder derivative litigation, declaratory judgment actions, and has secured emergency injunctions relating to claims for breach of contract, fiduciary duties, fraud and professional negligence.
A big reason why John is so successful in complex business and financial litigation is that he has a solid business background. He holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business Administration from Loyola University of Chicago, and is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in Illinois. He’s also a member of the commercial litigation committee of the Chicago Bar Association.
John has counseled clients in actions based on violation of state and federal securities laws relating to the sale of unregistered securities and fraudulent investment schemes, and in employment controversies that focus on non-solicitation agreements and alleged breach of fiduciary duty. In addition, he has represented clients in state and federal appellate matters that involve prosecuting or defending direct appeals from judgment, securing temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions, and pursuing supervisory orders and enforcement of judgments. He is also skilled at alternative dispute resolution, and has represented the founders of a high tech startup in arbitrating alleged violation of employment agreements.
A 1998 graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago-Kent College of Law, John is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois. He is a member of the general and trial bars of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Murphy & Hourihane attorneys know the state and federal courts of Illinois, and have handled hundreds of jury and bench trials.
Murphy & Hourihane lawyers undertake internal investigations on behalf of corporate and public agency Chief Executive and Chief Financial Officers, Boards of Directors, Audit Committees and Independent Auditors.
We are effective commercial litigators because we understand your business needs. Gene and John treat contract, real estate, tax, financial and regulatory issues as business concerns, not just elements of trial strategy.
