Biography

Mr. Friedman is a graduate of the University of Illinois and Kent College of Law.  He volunteered for a decade at Children’s Memorial Hospital, and the Anixter Center Developmentally Disabled Adults.  Following law school, Rick worked for the Cook County Public Defender’s Office for three years before establishing his Chicago area law practice in 1992.  While he has always concentrated in the area of Criminal Defense, an area in which he has been named a Leading Lawyer in the State of Illinois since 2012, Rick has handled matters as varied as Personal Injury and Age Discrimination.  He has conducted over one thousand bench trials and twenty five jury trials, many resulting in the acquittal of his clients.  He represents clients charged with a full range of traffic, misdemeanor and felony offenses, has tried over twenty first degree murder cases, and participated in a capital murder jury trial.  Though his practice is concentrated in the State courts, Rick has led a Criminal Drug Conspiracy jury trial in federal court, and helped represent a plaintiff in a Federal Civil Rights trial, in which the jury awarded $500,000 in damages.  In June 2011, Rick became Of Counsel to the firm of Murphy & Hourihane, a commercial litigation firm.
